Too often in life we ask ourselves this question: why am I here? What is my purpose? This seemingly simple question is a loaded one.
I have asked myself this question time and time again, racking my brain for the answer. I have turned to God in prayer, sometimes aggressively, asking, begging, pleading and crying for Him to make it obvious to me.
What I have come to realise is this. God speaks to people in different ways. Some hear the voice of God, some feel a powerful calling on their heart to do a particular thing, some have had visitation from the Holy Spirit, while others unknown to them are being led by God's earthly angels (family, friends and sometimes strangers). However, another way that I feel a lot of people overlook God speaking to them is through life experience.
At church, we as a congregation are constantly reminded by our lead Pastor Gary, and often times Guest Pastors, that spending half of your life waiting for God to make your purpose crystal clear is a waste of time. Firstly, not everyone will be lucky enough to be visited by God. Secondly, the time you could have spent getting busy with life, using your experiences to shape your vision for your life you waste waiting for a clear sign.
Alternatively, some people spend so much of their lives moving from one goal to the next, that they forget to still themselves and analyse where they are in life. They just get up in the morning and rush through life. If that is you, I would suggest going through some of the experiences that you have had. Has there been anything that has really stood out to you, a cause that is on your heart, an idea you can't let go of? Maybe it might be time to try developing the idea, seeing where that passion leads you.
Personally, I believe that experience is one of the best ways to figure out where you are best suited to serve. In my opinion, having a purpose is not to serve your own self-interest but to help the lives of others. It doesn't matter how many or how few. If you do not put yourself out there, if you do not try different things, whether it is working in marketing or finance, learning to play a new instrument, interning at an event planning company, going on a school trip to a new country, or auditioning for the debate team, you might not realise where you best fit.
Do you have a dream you've always wanted to fulfill? Well have a go at it, get training, build connections, and attend events. With the Internet there is so much out there at your disposal for you to exploit, for free. If you fail, try and try again, and remember that those that have succeeded in this world all started from somewhere, do not snub a small beginning.
I found a lot of peace when that message finally sank in.
There is no need for you to worry, your path is pre-determined. All you have to do is work hard and do you. Everything always has a funny way of falling into place.
