I think it is so easy at times to settle for who we have in front of us.
The suave guy who is showing us attention but we know that a long-term future with them is unlikely. Or we go for the "friend," who has liked us for ages but like the suave guy, is not a long-term prospect. Or we date the new really nice guy who we are not too interested in, but he's attentive, caring and available.
In all those cases we choose to to fill our lives with Mr Temp, instead of waiting for the guy who is really going to knock us off our feet.
At the time we don't realise we are doing this. As far as we are concerned we are just enjoying their company, or we fool ourselves into thinking we really like them, or we reduce it to harmless fun.
However, by choosing to proceed with Mr Temp we could end up hurting him, especially if he really cares about us. Secondly, we could drive our future Mr Somebody away because he sees that our house is currently occupied. Thirdly, we could hurt ourselves in the process if/when we slowly start to fall for Mr Temp.
I have learnt that it's not every guy that likes you that you say yes to. Especially if we are sure that we don't see a future with them or really like them, period.
Now you may call me out and say, but who said I wanted a long-term future with this guy?
I personally have always believed in dating people who we can see that we could have something substantial with, someone who we could quite possibly share our lives with.
Disclaimer - Ladies, that does not mean that as soon as you see a guy you like you start thinking of wedding oh...
I only mean that you can see that he could be a potential candidate for that position if/when your relationship heads in that direction. Why waste your time, money, emotion and energy on a guy who is just a filler?
Fill whatever interim gap you have before Mr Somebody arrives by working on improving yourself. Personal growth is key to a happy and healthy you. In addition, your future Mr will thank you for it.
Therefore be brave, and cut the cord on any Mr Temp you might be entertaining.
So my #star, have you ever been involved with a Mr Temp?
